Who I am: Originally from a small town in northern Maine, I graduated from The George Washington University in 1996. I then moved to South Carolina to be closer to family and pursue a career in teaching. As a classroom teacher in Charleston, South Carolina, I learned valuable, on the job lessons. Teaching in Title I schools, I quickly learned to deal with the needs of struggling students, many of whom read far below grade level. While teaching in Charleston, I became involved with the National Education Association. As a member of the Challenge of Change Team at Brentwood Middle School, I worked to promote positive change both within the school system and the community itself.

What I believe: I believe it is important for every
student to master fundamental skills. Grammar, math facts, critical thinking
and analysis skills, among others are the foundation that make all independent
learning possible.
